Internet Marketing Is Everywhere

Most of you who have been reading my blog for some time know that I'm a big fan of getting the word out in any way possible. Whether you're using PR, direct mail, or pay-per-click marketing, being in front of your target audience whenever and wherever they may happen to be is good for your brand. I'm also a huge proponent of networking.

In combination, marketing effectively and networking, with those who can help your cause are a great way to elevate your brand. This creates awareness, interest, and desire. With the help of digital marketing (a.k.a. Internet marketing), these concepts of Networking and Brand Promotion are reaching new heights.

Internet Marketing on the Go!

A while back I published my first book, SEO Made Simple, to share my knowledge of search engine optimization with a segment of my marketing audience who were building web sites, launching blogs, and focused on affiliate marketing. Since then, the book has expanded to reach broader audiences interested in online marketing for themselves, their businesses and even their clients. What I never expected was that by delivering the content in a different format, I would be able to share it with so many more people interested in what I had to offer.

After relaunching my first book digitally (Amazon Kindle), and publishing my second book PPC Made Simple in both digital format and in print, I've discovered a new avenue for sharing information and improving online marketing.

Thinking about how this applies to the businesses that I consult with, I can't help but think about the portability and viewing of information. For example, how are you sharing your information with customers? Brochures and print materials are less important than they once were. Still producing that $40 catalog? Consider printing a smaller catalog and publishing your content online. There you can add reviews, comparisons, and other value adds.

Think Digital to Win the Marketing Game

When I saw my content on an iPad, I almost flipped. Even though it was published electronically, seeing it on an actual device made it real for me. Yet this is what more and more of our customers are interacting with on a regular basis. How will you compete? What's your digital strategy?

Think through all aspects of your marketing plan: Audience, Messaging, Timing, and Offer. Consider the modality that it needs to be delivered in. I'm not suggesting that you stop using print all together but rather consider offering multiple formats that your audience can consume when, where, and however they choose.

Today's take-a-way is that if you're not thinking .mobi or Today's take-a-way is that if you're not thinking .mobi or iPad or Smart phone, think again. How is the digital platform changing marketing? It already has!

  1. Michael, As long as your not advising against print :-). The world of marketing and print is rapidly changing and we, in the printing industry, are trying to make the evolution from 100% print to a mix of digital and print. The recent recession has neccessariy accelerated that evolution as more and more companies abandon print altogether to save money. We all know that print will recover somewhat as companies realize that print is an integral part of marketing and will be for some time.

  2. I couldn't agree more that nowadays it is important to consider future movements. That's why I always advise companies to buy domain names from several countries along with .eu & .mobi. You never know what the future will bring and it is important to stay ahead in some cases.

  18. Even though a lot of marketing is on the Web these days, do you think gorilla marketing is still relevant? I hand out fliers at my college campus in Miami, Florida and it seems to be effective.

  19. Charles, in my experience Guerrilla marketing is very market specific. A campus environment is more appropriate for a Guerrilla approach. Similarly, more dense areas of population, with interaction, tend to result in a higher return.

As marketers we must remember, even though most areas use the internet, some find more value in traditional forms of media - where a personal approach is much more effective and appreciated than an email or tweet (weigh your demographic, geographic, and psychographic).

  23. Great post, Michael. The playing field of marketing is definitely changing since the advent of the Internet. From simple online advertising to the current rise of social media as a sales & relationship driver, it's definitely an exciting time!

I recently read a blog on how social media is driving sales to car dealerships that I wanted to share that cites examples on the shift to social media. It's fast-becoming another weapon in marketing arsenals.

  25. You talk about how key these evolving platforms are to internet marketing and I have to agree. I think the mobile phone will be the most important medium despite the advent of the digital pads. As our phones get closer to a PC they become tremendously important. Great article. Good luck with the book!

  26. Excellent!! I absolutely agree with you. Because you know everybody is making websites for his purpose, but he can get business from that only when it is promoted over internet. It means both SEO and its competition are increasing day by day. thanks

  29. Internet Marketing is really everywhere!

Internet marketing is really beneficial to our country (Mauritius), especially because we are a small island, in the middle of nowhere... With internet marketing, there is no geographical boundaries, our business can become visible to a greater audience.

Another thing is that, people don't fancy blowing hard-earned money. It follows that they won't buy from relatively unknown business corporation. However, Internet marketing has fixed that, giving our business a name, an identity so that we can induce trust in our potential customers. The more we make our clients feel personal, the more comfortable they are, leading to the more they will choose us over our competitors. Hence, internet marketing has really helped our company to gain competitive advantage over our competitors.

Besides, with internet marketing we can afford to offer special sales and we can constantly communicate with our customers, hence increasing their customer satisfaction and experiences.... All of that leading to the success of our business.

  30. The wrong way of doing Internet marketing will be very costly and will bring little to no results...
The right way of doing Internet marketing will take some time, study and money at first, but in the long run it will begin to sustain itself and become a fully automated way of earning money.

Digital marketing is important but still 360 degrees approach has not lost its essence. There are still significant markets where digital revolution has not reached. There the traditional mediums of communication do the job.Internet marketing has added one more medium to communicate but the other mediums have equal importance in their own way.

  35. this blog post really hit the topic on the head. whereas print was the best and only way to do marketing now how turned obsolete and if you want your biz to be "out there" you have no choice but to invest in some quality internet marketing. well done
